What's KRILL OIL ?
Krill are shrimp-like crustaceans that are roughly one to six centimeters in size. They exist in the ocean, where they eat mainly on phytoplankton. They are close to the bottom of the food chain and are devoured by gaint whales, seals, penguins, squid and fish.
Krill oil, the oil that is detected naturally in krill, is taken out and marketed as a wellness supplement. It's sold in some and wellness food shops and online in capsulate form.
Krill oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, which is the main reason it's becoming popular as a nutritional supplement.
The algae that krill eat produces the brilliant red pigment astaxanthin that causes krill and many other crustaceans for example lobster and shrimp their reddish-pink color.
Antioxidants protect our human cells from destruction by free radicals, harmful substances that are believed to contribute to certain chronic illness. Unlike numerous other antioxidants, astaxanthin goes over the blood-brain barrier, where it could in theory protect the eye, brain and central nervous system from free radical damage.
Why Do People Use Krill Oil ?
Krill oil contains vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin D and canthaxanthin, which is, similar to astaxanthin, a strong anti-oxidant. The anti-oxidant effectiveness of krill oil is such that when likened to fish oil in terms of ORAC (Oxygen radical absorptance capacity) values it was determined to be 48 times more effective than fish oil.
It was for this rreason that I began consuming krill oil to begin with-I later found out its other virtues afterwards.
A number of studies have shown that krill oil is hugely effective in reducing LDL-cholesterol, increasing HDL-cholesterol, and bringing down blood sugar. It has been shown to be efficient in treating the pain and inflammation from rheumatoid arthritis and aches and pains as a whole. And it has been shown to be effective in the treatment of adult ADHD.
Due to the fast absorption of krill oil and the high anti-oxidant content there is literally never the fishy burping and aftertaste at times experienced with fish oil. And there are no other side effects to speak of. The jury is out right now on if and to what degree there is a problem for those people allergic to shrimp. Until the jury is in, I would be careful in taking krill oil if I had a shrimp allergy.
The Antioxidant Potency of Krill Oil is 48 Times Higher than Fish Oil.
They also appear to play a role in aiding to slow down your signs of aging.
So when you deliberate that the anti-oxidant potency of krill oil is 48 times more potent than fish oil, well, choosing between the two is a no brainer.
· Over 300 times the antioxidant strength of vitamin A and vitamin E
· Over 34 times the antioxidant power of coenzyme Q-10
Pretty impressive, wouldn't you say?
To top it all off, krill oil also contains astaxanthin - a unique marine-source flavonoid - that produces a special bond with the EPA and DHA, which permits direct metabolism of the antioxidants, making them more bioavailable.
